Disney’s ‘Frozen’ Beats Barbie As Top Toy For Girls, Survey Says
Sorry, Barbie. You’ve had a long reign as the top toy for girls. But you’ll have to ‘Let it Go.’
Parents reported that 20% planned to buy Disney’s ‘Frozen’ goodies for girls this year, compared to 16.8% choosing to purchase Barbies, in the National Retail Federation’s latest holiday top toys survey.
This is the first time in the survey’s 11-year-history that Barbie was beaten, according to NRF.
Forty-two percent of shoppers plan to buy toys as gifts for the holiday, the consumer survey points out. Whereas, 61% plan to buy clothes or clothing accessories.
According to the survey, the 2014 top toys for girls:
1. Disney Frozen
2. Barbie
3. Dolls
4. Monster High Dolls
5. American Girl
And for the boys:
1. LEGO
2. Cars & Trucks
3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
4. Video games
5. Hot Wheels
The survey was held from November 3-10 polled 6,593 consumers and conducted by the NRF. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.2 percentage points.
