Disney Channel To Bring Maker Studios’ YouTube Stars To TV
Maker Studios, the large YouTube multichannel network acquired by Disney, is working with corporate cable cousins Disney Channel and Disney XD to produce TV specials featuring digital talent. In the U.S., Disney Channel and Disney XD have each committed to an original Maker-branded half-hour special, with additional opportunities in development with Disney Channels Worldwide. The companies announced the new programming initiative at Mipcom. The cross-platform tie-ups are just the sort of synergy execs promised with the Mouse House’s purchase of Maker Studios for half a billion dollars this year, in a deal that could be worth up to $950 million. Disney Expects Maker Studios To Become Next Marvel, Pixar Or Lucasfilm
Walt Disney Co. believes Maker Studios,the Youtube Network that it acquired in March,has the potential to become the next Marvel,Pixar or Lucasfilm. Maker, the largest network of channels on Google’s YouTube, is growing revenue and has the potential to be profitable, Jay Rasulo, Disney’s chief financial officer, said Wednesday at the Goldman Sachs Communicopia Conference in New York. Maker Studios: Disney Deal Approved, Relativity Bid Too Late
Maker Studios’ board has already voted on its merger with Disney Maker Studios’ Board of Directors has already approved its proposed deal with Disney, rendering a last-ditch effort by Relativity Media to buy the company moot, Maker said Monday. Disney agreed to buy Maker Studios in March for $500 million — and as much as $950 million if certain targets are met.
