5 Reasons I Love to Run at Disney

1.  Everything at Disney is an experience.

From the moment you step on property, you will be entertained and encouraged.  They set up stages with a DJ that will lead you through dances of old and new.  Character meet and greets are available for pictures with you before you run.  There is always a cast member ready to help, answer questions and cheer you on.  There are even photo ops set up throughout the course with Disney characters.  How can you not enjoy a run when Belle and the Mad Hatter are there along the way?!

2.  Every one is welcome.

Most 5K’s at Disney are Family Fun Run’s.  You will be running with families, kids, son’s pushing dad’s in wheelchairs and everything in between.  It is so inspiring to see a mother and daughter, dressed in matching tu-tus, cross the finish line.  This is the perfect place to start out as a runner, walker, or just a Disney nut that would love a new experience.

3. Fireworks.

OK, small detail but an important one.  Disney ends every night with fireworks, so why not start out your run and your day with a little pyrotechnics?  Trust me, it will get you going, because you know those fireworks are for you!

4.  The friends you make.

There is nothing like gathering together with thousands of the closest friends you’ve never met, to meet a common goal.  I love to meet new people and find out about them.  Case in point, our new friend Michelle.  She drove from Atlanta to Orlando with her kids and babysitter to run this 5K.  This is the goal at the end of a year of changing her life that included losing 50 pounds!  I think I was more excited to see her finish than when I finished.  How inspiring.

5.  Participating with my husband.

Let’s be honest, neither of us are very healthy, but we are working on it.  Watching him train, sweat, and finish is a beautiful sight.  This may not apply to you, but maybe it does.  Do you want something other than the couch to share with your spouse/best friend/parent?  This is the ticket.  Get up early, dress in a costume, and get your butt to Disney.  You will be hooked and the memories you make will last forever.
