Disneyland Week – Brunch in French Quarter

Mint Julep Bar at Disneyland ResortI think I am slowly becoming the WDW Parkhoppers.com resident foodie.  And this is a title I will gladly accept.  With that, let me tell you about our first meal in Disneyland for this year’s trip.  And since it was in two parts, let us begin at the beginning…

That’s right, Disney Mint Juleps and pastries for breakfast.  They were non-alcoholic Mint Juleps so honestly, we did not have high expectations.   We expected something overly sweet and syrupy with the but they were surprisingly wonderful.  The Mint Juleps we cool, just sweet enough and very refreshing.  We were impressed at how good they were.

Mickey Mouse, Mint Juleps, and Funnel Cakes

They were already out of the first batch of beignets, so we opted for the funnel cake. Let me just say, Yummy!  The dough was fluffy and warm and the whip cream was so creamy. They offer choices of strawberry or chocolate sauce topped with the Mickey shaped whipped cream.  For the sake of research we had to opt for both!   We always think of funnel cakes as festival food but Disney did a great job of making them a grown-up, rich but not overly heavy treat.  Or, in the case of our vacation, a well-balanced breakfast!

Our second course came an hour later with a visit around the corner to The French Market. This is a cafeteria style,  counter service restaurant with a French bistro flair.   In this case I will let the photos do the talking.  First, John’s Seafood and Chicken Jambalaya…

And of course his favorite, the buttery, warm cheddar cornbread…Cornbread at Disneyland Resort

There was a ton of chicken and seafood in this dish.  The shrimp were well cooked and the crawfish were delectable.  To round out the combination they added creole rice, Andouille sausage and vegetables.   This is a mild but definitely flavorful dish.  The vegetables were surprisingly crisp and fresh.  It was not your normal grab and go meal and for that, thank you Disneyland

For my half of the meal, I chose the Four Cheese Pasta and Vegetable Gratin.  Let me share with you…

How about a close-up of the wonderful cheesy goodness…Cheesy Gratin at Disneyland Resort

The sauce was a tangy, creamy blend of Cheddar, Gouda, Provolone and Asiago cheese and there were slices of shitake mushrooms and cauliflower blended in with the pasta.  I had the same Menu at French Market at Disneyland Resortwonderful vegetables and cheddar corn bread as John.  This had to be one of the best versions of macaroni and cheese I have ever had, and that means something in our house.

The menu also offered Citrus chicken, Roast Beef, Herb and Garlic Salmon, chowder and some amazing looking desserts. The price was great and the outside eating area set a perfect French café scene.   If you ever find yourself hungry in Disneyland, wander towards the French Quarter and try out some of these fantastic dishes for yourself.  We would love to hear what you think.

Wishing you enchanted eats!
