Enter the Secret World of Arrietty

This past weekend, I was invited to enter an amazing world full of amazing images, humanity, and unbridled beauty. And it can all be found inside the Secret World of Arrietty, Walt Disney Studio’s newest full length animated feature film. This is not a Disney Animation film; it’s from the legendary Studio Ghibli (“Spirited Away,” “Ponyo”) and is based on Mary Norton’s acclaimed children’s book series “The Borrowers.”

Secret World of Arrietty Walt Disney Studios Disney Daily Magic

When the movie begins we are introduced to 12-year-old Shawn (voice of David Henrie), a human boy who comes to stay in his grandmother’s home and discovers Arrietty (AIR-ee-ett-ee), a tiny, but tenacious 14-year-old, who lives with her parents (voices of Will Arnett and Amy Poehler) in the recesses of the grandmother’s suburban garden home. Like all little people, Arrietty (voice of Bridgit Mendler), remains hidden from view, except during occasional covert ventures beyond the floorboards to “borrow” supplies like sugar cubes and tissue paper from her human hosts. Shawn discovers his mysterious little housemate one evening and a secret friendship blossoms. But if discovered, their relationship could drive Arrietty’s family from the home and straight into danger.
