All About Pluto

pluto2

The first short in which Mickey Mouse and Pluto appeared together was The Chain Gang (1930)—it was Pluto’s first—and second—appearance.

The Chain Gang featured two identical and unnamed Plutos who, unlike Mickey’s friendly pup that we all know and love, are relentless bloodhounds. Pluto’s second outing in The Picnic (1930) was a little more indicative of his future career. In this short, his name was Rover, and he was very definitely Minnie’s dog rather than Mickey’s. Six months later that all changed, however, and one of the most famous friendships in cinematic history was forged. The short in question, in which Pluto pretends to have been accidentally shot by Mickey, is The Moose Hunt.

  • Voiced By Pinto Colvig, Lee Miller, Jim Macdonald, and Bill Farmer
  • Puppy Love Pluto has shown affection for both Fifi and the curvaceous dachshund, Dinah.
  • Pluto’s Corner On the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, California, Pluto has his own corner named after him. It is next a fire hydrant.
  • Two Owners Pluto’s career has really had several strands. In one, he is Mickey’s boon companion—the faithful, loving dog of every little boy’s dreams. In another, he seems to be Minnie’s dog, sharing the household with her and Figaro.
