The Living Seas at Epcot Celebrates 25 Years

Today we celebrate the 25th anniversary of one of the original pavillions at Disney’s Epcot, The Living Seas.  Originally sponsored by United Technologies from 1986-1998, The Living Seas was later transformed into The Seas with Nemo and Friends in late 2006 after the loss of it’s corporate sponsor and the release of Pixar’s Finding Nemo movie.

Inside the pavilion guests could watch a short informative movie, take a Hydrolator (sub-sea elevator) ride down to Seabase Alpha, or ride Seacabs (sea shell shaped omni-mover) through the amazing coral reef. Sea Base Alpha also featured several hands-on exhibits as well as divers, submarine and dolphin exhibits.

When The Living Seas aquarium was completed, it became the largest aquarium inthe world containing 5.7 million gallons of water in its circulartank housing several thousand different species of aquaticanimals. The tank is 203′ in diameter and 27′ deep, and features the Coral Reef restaurant, which offers diners a spectacular view of the aquarium while enjoying their meals.
