Disney Channel Developing Mo’ne Davis Original Movie, Throw Like Mo
Little League star Mo’Ne Davis’ inspirational story is getting its own Disney Channel Original Movie, the company announced Thursday. Davis will also be on hand along with espnW to consult on the film, entitled “Throw Like Mo.” The young pitcher rose to fame in 2014 when her 70 mph fastball helped her team, Philadelphia’s Taney Dragons, head to the Little League World Series. She became the first female player to pitch a shutout in LLWS history. Davis’ triumphs led the teen to appear on the national cover of Sports Illustrated, becoming the first Little Leaguer to be celebrated with that honor. Disney Channel To Bring Maker Studios’ YouTube Stars To TV
Maker Studios, the large YouTube multichannel network acquired by Disney, is working with corporate cable cousins Disney Channel and Disney XD to produce TV specials featuring digital talent. In the U.S., Disney Channel and Disney XD have each committed to an original Maker-branded half-hour special, with additional opportunities in development with Disney Channels Worldwide. The companies announced the new programming initiative at Mipcom. The cross-platform tie-ups are just the sort of synergy execs promised with the Mouse House’s purchase of Maker Studios for half a billion dollars this year, in a deal that could be worth up to $950 million.
