ABC And Disney VoluntEARS Build Long Island Playground
Hundreds of volunteers from Disney and ABC employees came together to volunteer with the non-profit KaBOOM! to build a brand new playground on Long Island.
Construction of the playground began Friday morning at the Central Islip Community Park.
The design of the playground is based on children’s drawings created at a special event in June.
This is the 2,500th KaBOOM!-led build in its history, and it also happens to be the 50th playground made possible with support from Disney as part of Magic of Healthy Living, an initiative that partners with parents to inspire kids to lead healthier lifestyles.
Once construction was completed, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday afternoon.
ABC News President James Goldston, WABC-TV President and GM Dave Davis, Islip officials, and other community leaders were in attendance.
More than 7,200 children in Islip are expected to use the new playground.
